Remembering Niels Christian Albertsen

16 Mar 2021

On 13 January 2021, our Co-founder and Managing Director through many years M.C.E, lic. (Niels) Christian Albertsen passed away shortly before his 75th birthday. Christian was a driving force in all of TICRA’s activities throughout his career. Christian Albertsen was also connected to DTU as associate professor in Mathematics and Physics.

After finishing his master’s degree in 1970 Christian was associated to what is formerly known as Electromagnetic Institute – EMI – as Research Assistant and in 1972 he was awarded a licentiate scholarship. The licentiate study was completed with a dissertation in 1975 about Electromagnetics fields prevalence along curved surfaces.

At EMI Christian worked side by side with former professor Jesper E. Hansen and at that time licentiate student Niels Eilskov Jensen. The three young scientists believed they had the opportunity to show the applicability of their work. They therefore registered a joint stock company in November 1971 with the three of them as sole stockholders and with Christian as Managing Director. During the years Christian had a central role in all of TICRA’s activities. His work covered everything from basic electromagnetic theory to practical antenna design, as well as being deeply involved in the development of antenna software.

Christian was a very gifted person with a large professional capacity, and he overcame more than most. As a recognition for his achievements Christian was in 1991 elected as member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences. He continued his work at DTU for 35 years and did not retire until 2014 after 43 years at TICRA.

May Niels Christian Albertsen rest in peace.
