TICRA Tools 19.0 is released – Optimise your antenna design workflow

25 Jun 2019

We are pleased to announce the release of TICRA Tools 19.0. With TICRA Tools 19.0 users will experience a significant improvement in the way they are working with TICRA’s antenna analysis and design software. TICRA Tools provides an easy workflow between GRASP, ESTEAM and CHAMP 3D because the software products work together so that users can combine the features of one product with the others to perform very advanced analysis and design complex antenna structures.

Optimise antennas and waveguide components in TICRA Tools

TICRA Tools comes with built-in optimisation capabilities which allow the user to optimise the design of antennas and waveguide components. It is possible to optimise any geometric feature, which has been defined using a variable, to meet goals for the far- and near-field performance and scattering parameters of your antenna system.  You will be able to select among 5 different and well-established optimisation algorithms to find the one most suited for your specific design problem.

Find the coupling between antennas in TICRA Tools

When different antennas are mounted in close proximity of each other, e.g. on a mast or a spacecraft, there will be an inevitable coupling between them, directly or through a scattering process. The coupling feature in TICRA Tools enables the computation of this, using any of the available analysis methods for the given antenna system.

GRASP

Quasi-optical analysis in GRASP

The content of the previous add-on product QUAST is now included in GRASP as standard. The features of this package allow for easy set-up of quasi-optical systems using the Quasi-Optical Frame object and includes several objects for modelling items often found in quasi-optical systems such as dielectric lenses, beam splitters, and more.

Advanced GTD for large reflector and scattering problems

The previous Multi-GTD add-on product is now included in the standard GRASP. The Multi-GTD feature includes algorithms for analysis of scattering problems using the geometrical theory of diffraction and it is particularly useful for analysis of electrically large structures.

Additionally, the ray tracing associated with GTD is useful for finding interference paths in complex environments, e.g. antenna measurement facilities.

ESTEAM (previously named MoM)

The previous MoM add-on product has been separated from GRASP, renamed ESTEAM and included as an independent product in TICRA Tools for the design of general antennas and scattering by large structures. New users, who do not need the reflector-oriented features of GRASP, can obtain a license for ESTEAM without having to purchase GRASP as well. The previously mentioned features of the TICRA Tools framework, optimisation and coupling, are available to ESTEAM, which offers the users significant memory reduction achieved by an improvement of the MLFMM implementation. ESTEAM maintains high speed and accuracy, particularly on multi-core computers.

CHAMP 3D

CHAMP 3D is a completely new product for analysis and design of passive waveguide components and complex feed chains.

With CHAMP 3D, the user can calculate scattering parameters from waveguide components, which can be loaded from a library of predefined components or from a CAD file. Waveguide components can be put together to form waveguide assemblies or complex feed chains, and all the optimisation capabilities of TICRA Tools are available for design improvements.

Built-in library of predefined components

CHAMP 3D allows the user to build a complex 3D waveguide assembly or feed by selecting from a library of predefined components or loading the assembly/component from a CAD file. Additionally, it is possible to calculate scattering parameters and radiation from feeds excited by arbitrary waveguide modes or any combination hereof.

Simple setup of rotationally symmetric horns

The dedicated 2D editor, known from CHAMP, can be used for easy setup of axially or radially corrugated horns, smooth wall horns as well as rotationally symmetric reflectors.

Seamless integration of CHAMP 3D and GRASP in one interface

Using CHAMP 3D and GRASP together removes the tedious task of exporting feed patterns from CHAMP in spherical waves to be used as feed model in GRASP. Moreover, TICRA Tools enables optimisation of the full chain of components in a reflector system, from input coax through waveguides to feed and reflectors with goals on the secondary pattern and/or scattering parameters.
