The establishment of TICRA Foundation
In 1986, TICRA is legally changed from a shareholder’s company to a commercial foundation, the TICRA Foundation. With this change Knud Pontoppidan resigned as Managing Director of TICRA and he was elected as Chairman of the board in TICRA Foundation. The Board appointed Niels Christian Albertsen as Managing Director of the company.
The objectives of the TICRA Foundation were, and continue to be, to offer engineering consultancy and related services and to support higher education and research within the electro technical engineering sciences in Denmark or abroad.
The change has never been noticeable to our customers in our day-to-day operations. However, as a commercial foundation, the Board of Directors is required to distribute grants according to the TICRA Foundation objectives. Each year, the provision for distribution equals at least 10% of the net profit of the year (before tax) with a minimum amount of DKK 10,000 annually. In the last 30 years, the TICRA Foundation has distributed more than DKK 2.5 million, and will within the coming 5 years distribute an additional DKK 1.5 million. The benefactors include a number of public institutions, non-profit technical organisations and university researchers.
Throughout the years, the TICRA Foundation has also directly supported specific research projects, test equipment as well as more than 100 students that have received support for travel, lodging and participation at international conferences such as the European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP) and the IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (AP-S).
