Over several decades, TICRA builds a position as the leading provider within modelling of antennas for satellite communications. In 2015, we expand our focus, by the acquisition of the SATSOFT Coverage Planning Tool, which complements our existing portfolio.
Satellite coverage planning describes the entire process from the conception of an idea for a new future satellite system to the final in-orbit testing of the spacecraft after launch, or elements thereof. It consists of many disciplines, ranging from specifying the intended geographical areas, metropolises and individual cities, performing preliminary antenna gain estimation under ideal and non-ideal conditions, accessing final antenna and payload performance to marketing-oriented presentation of the service.
The acquisition is the result of a close contact with the former owner and lead developer of SATSOFT, Ken Sherman, who had provided his coverage planning tool to the satellite industry for many years.
In TICRA, SATSOFT undertakes a major revamp, and the user interface is upgraded to give a modern look and feel. Also, SATSOFT is extended with capabilities for shaped reflectors to easily predict the antenna gain of this type of contoured beam antennas in addition to the multi-feed reflectors. With our investment, SATSOFT has consolidated its position at the major satellite payload manufacturers, satellite operators, and space agencies worldwide.
Fun fact: Since the 1990s, TICRA had shared our field data format with Ken Sherman, so that SATSOFT-users could easily export their results for further processing in TICRA’s tools.
